We come to the end of Shemot, the story of the exodus and revelation. This Torah portion is called “records” in English, because it is a statistical summary of all the materials used for the building of the Mishkan (tabernacle). Then follows an account of producing the the priestly garments, and a repetition of the earlier chapters that detail the building of the portable sanctuary. At the end Moses blesses the people and officially consecrates the ‘sanctuary.’ Afterward the priests are anointed and a year after the Exodus, the sanctuary is completed and God notes his approval of this special desert “Sanctuary.”
